How To Transform A Kennel Into A Pooch Palace

Is your dog’s kennel in need of an upgrade? With a few tools and our step-by-step guide, we’ll show you how you can keep your furry friend safe and dry against the harsh Australia climate while looking stylish!

Step 1: Mix ½ cup of Selleys Original Sugar Soap into ½ bucket (5 litres) of water to give yourkennel a quick clean. This is an important step for removing dirt and grime in preparation for painting later in the process.

Step 2: Replace any bits of loose wood or small missing pieces with new cut pieces of wood and glue with Selleys Aquadhere Exterior. Wipe out any excess glue with a damp cloth before clamping those newly adhered sections. Keep them clamped for 1 hour and rest for 24 hours for best results.

Step 3: Cut your vinyl to size to install as the kennel flooring. Adhere the flooring to the kennel using Selleys Kwik Grip Horizontal by completely covering both the vinyl and the floor with the adhesive and keep both of them apart until the glue is ‘touch dry’ – approx 20 minutes, no more than 40 minutes Use dowels to help keep your vinyl separated so you can align to the perfect position, then remove. Use a roller to make sure the surfaces have come together and remove all air bubbles.

Step 4: With all the glue dry, it’s time to give your kennel a good sanding to prepare it for painting. Give the kennel a wipe again with Sugar Soap to remove the dust from the sanding. Choose your preferred exterior colour and apply with a paint brush or roller.

Step 5: The most important step — installing your furry friend's name plaque on the front of the kennel. Using Selleys Power Grip on the plaque, press it firmly in the desired position and apply tape to keep it in place for three minutes —with practical strength achieved in 12 hours.

Step 6: Your furry friend is ready to enjoy their Pooch Palace!
