What Colour to Choose?

What are the top 3 things to consider when choosing the silicone colour?

Neutral Silicone colours have been the staples in past years but with the evolution of more
adventurous bathroom designs including coloured grouts, designers and consumers are being more adventurous in matching their silicone colour to coloured grout or coloured surface materials. There is new demand for bold, dark, matt and glossy silicone.

When choosing the silicone colour, take into account:

• Do you want the silicone to blend in or stand out as a feature?
• What do you want to match the silicone to? For example - grout, stone, tile, paint.

I would recommend securing a physical colour card so that you can match more accurately in your lighting and against your materials. It is never a good idea to work with a digital image of colour

Do I match the colour of the sealant with the tiles, the benchtop/vanity or grout?

This depends on the effect you are looking to create. I prefer to match my silicone to the surfaces or grout unless I want the junction to create a new narrative

How to choose the shade of grey that will best match with my tiles?

Mid grey enables neighbouring colours to be viewed in their truest form. If you want to amplify the colour of your tiles, select from mid to dark grey. If you want a less dominant effect, go for lighter greys. If your tiles are plain and dark, opt for a lighter grey to create a contrasting pattern. If your tiles are light, opt for a darker grey again to create contrasting patterns. If you want to match your silicone to your tiles, take a physical sample of the silicone and tile outside into good light to get a match.

Are there certain colours or textures that would suit matt silicone over regular silicone?

This is a personal choice however I prefer matt silicone. I like to use matt and regular silicone in the same room, depending on the effect I am trying to achieve. Some like to match silicone type to the texture of the material or contrast it.

What’s your golden rule in colour matching?

Colour matching is a process of elimination. By comparing physical samples in good natural light, you can quickly rule out colours that don’t work, leaving you with the best solution.
